AC31 PLCs and previous series
AC31 and previous series (e.g. Sigmatronic, Procontic) are obsolete and were replaced by the AC500 PLC platform.
The Advant Controller 31 series 40-50 offered small and compact PLCs with central and decentralized extensions. The Advant Controller 31 series 90 offered powerful PLCs for challenging applications with various configuration options and up to five communication interfaces. The PLC provided 60 I/Os internally and could be expanded decentrally. The combination of integrated communication fieldbus allowed to connect the PLC to several protocols like e.g. Ethernet, PROFIBUS DP, ARCNET or CANopen.
Both AC31 series 40 and 50 utilized the same AC31GRAF software which conformed to the IEC61131-3 standard. AC31 series 90 utilized the 907 AC 1131 programming software, also developed in accordance with IEC61131-3.
The Advant Controller AC31-S was available for safety-related applications. It was based on the time-proven system structure of the AC31 series 90 variant.
Intended purpose
The analog input module 07 AI 91 is used as a remotemodule at the CS31 system bus.
It has 8 analog input channels with the following features:
• The channels can be configured in pairs for the connection of the following temperature or voltage sensors:
• ± 10 V / ± 5 V / ± 500 mV / ± 50 mV
• 4...20 mA (with external 250 Ω resistor )
• Pt100 / Pt1000 with linearization
• Thermocouples types J, K and S with linearization
• Only electrically isolated sensors may be used.
• The range of ± 5 V can also be used for measuring
0..20 mA with an additional external 250 Ω resistor
For the protection of your investments and for ease of migration to the new AC500 PLC generation, ABB provides AC31 adapter modules based on AC500. The modules have the same footprint, cabling and features as the previous AC31 series 90 products with up-to-date AC500 hardware. AC31 adapter modules can replace existing AC31 devices with either direct compatible e.g. I/O modules or need adjustments with a new user program for the CPU using Automation Builder software.
