1785-V40V Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V processor is an advanced member of the 1785 series enhanced PLC-5 processors, designed for use with VMEbus systems. VMEbus, which stands for "Versa Module Europa bus," is a standardized communication system used for data transfer within computer components, as defined by the ANSI/IEEE 1014-1987 standards. Unlike traditional PLC processors, the Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V processor requires a VMEbus chassis rather than a standard PLC chassis, making it distinct but still offering the same essential PLC-5 capabilities. This processor enables industrial computer systems to access programmable logic controller functions, integrating seamlessly into a range of applications.
One key feature of the Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V processor is its flexibility. It can operate both as a master and a slave unit in a VMEbus network. When configured as a master, it can access data from other VMEbus modules. As a slave, it allows other devices in the network to access its data. The 1785-V40V comes with 48K words of SRAM, supports up to 1920 I/O points, 1920 Analog I/O points, and features 4 DH+/Remote I/O channels, as well as 1 RS-232C communication channel.
Installation of the Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V processor is straightforward, as it fits easily into a standard 6U VMEbus chassis, occupying just two slots. Multiple 1785-V40V processors can be installed within a single VME chassis, supporting up to 8 units. This makes the Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V processor an excellent choice for users who need the flexibility of VMEbus while benefiting from the precise and reliable process control of a PLC-5 system in industrial environments.

Classic PLC-5 Family Processor Features
From the family of PLC-5 processors, you can choose the processor(s) that you need for your application. Features common to all Classic PLC-5
processors are:
The PLC-5 processor in adapter mode acts as a remote station to the supervisory processor. The adapter-mode PLC-5 processor can monitor and control its processor-resident local I/O while communicating with the supervisory processor via a remote I/O link.
