1756-OX8I Functional Description
The 1756-OX8I Isolated Contact Module is an Allen-Bradley relay output module designed for use with the ControlLogix platform, providing reliable and flexible output solutions for industrial automation systems. This module features eight Normally Open (N.O.) contacts and eight Normally Closed (N.C.) contacts, all of which are individually isolated, offering users enhanced control over a variety of output devices.
With its ability to handle both AC and DC voltages, the 1756-OX8I Isolated Contact Module is highly versatile. It supports an AC voltage range of 10 to 240 VAC and a DC voltage range of 5 to 125 VDC. This flexibility allows the module to energize various types of output devices such as contactors, motor starters, variable frequency drives, pilot lamps, annunciator panels, and other equipment requiring different voltage categories.
One of the key features of the 1756-OX8I Isolated Contact Module is its modularity. The output channels are individually isolated, but the module can also be configured as a non-isolated relay output by simply shorting the L1 connections on the Removable Terminal Block (RTB) using a 1756-JMPR jumper or third-party conductor. Compatible RTBs, such as the 1756-TBCH and 1756-TBS6H, are separately purchased. These RTBs simplify module installation, troubleshooting, and replacement by eliminating the need for re-wiring or output signal termination.
The 1756-OX8I Isolated Contact Module is engineered for durability with a maximum initial contact resistance of 100 mΩ at 6V, 1A, and a contact life expectancy of 300,000 cycles for resistive loads and 100,000 cycles for inductive loads. The module features a switching frequency of 1 operation per 3 seconds (0.3 Hz at rated load) and a mean bounce time of just 1.2 ms, ensuring reliable operation and minimal downtime in demanding industrial environments.
In summary, the 1756-OX8I Isolated Contact Module is a robust and flexible solution for controlling a wide range of devices in industrial automation systems, with features that enhance both performance and ease of use.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
