1756-PB72 Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-PB72 is a standard DC power supply designed for ControlLogix systems. It operates with a 24V DC input and offers integrated overcurrent protection. The device is built with reinforced insulation, tested at 3,500V DC for 60 seconds to ensure safety and reliability. The input frequency for this power supply ranges from 47 to 63 Hz, and its compact dimensions are 140 x 112 x 145 mm (5.51 x 4.41 x 5.71 inches), weighing approximately 0.95 kg (2.10 lbs).
The 1756-PB72 standard DC power supply is designed to operate in challenging environmental conditions, with a humidity range of 5-95% (non-condensing) and vibration resistance of 2 G at 10-500 Hz. Its operating temperature spans from 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F), while the non-operating temperature is between -40°C to 85°C (-40°F to 185°F). The unit can withstand surge transient immunity of ±1 kV line-line and ±2 kV line-earth, ensuring reliable performance even in harsh electrical environments.
This 1756-PB72 standard DC power supply supports series A, B, and C ControlLogix chassis and provides 4A at 3.3V, 10A at 5.1V, and 2.8A at 24V outputs. It is installed in the leftmost slot of the chassis, without occupying any module slots, and is secured directly onto the mounting plate. Proper grounding of the unit is recommended for safety and optimal performance.
A clear LED indicator on the module’s upper right section provides a visual status of its operation, while the DC terminal is easily accessible through the cover door for wiring. The terminal markings DC+ and DC- ensure straightforward installation and configuration. The 1756-PB72 standard DC power supply is not intended for use in residential areas, where radio communication interference could be an issue.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
