1756-IV16 Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-IV16 is a digital sourcing input/output (I/O) module designed for use with the ControlLogix 1756 chassis. This module supports 16 input channels, with eight inputs in each group. To connect it to the chassis, the module requires a removable terminal block (RTB), such as the 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH. It is important to note that the 1756-IV16 PLC Digital DC Input Module ControlLogix only supports an input data format. The operating voltage range for this module spans from 10 to 30 Volts DC, with a nominal input voltage of 24 Volts DC. Additionally, it falls under the 12/24 Volt DC source voltage category.
The 1756-IV16 Digital Input Module operates with a total backplane power consumption of 0.61 watts, and its maximum inrush current is 250 milliamps. It also has a maximum input impedance of 3.2 kΩ at 30 Volts DC and a power dissipation of up to 5.1 watts at 60°C, with a thermal dissipation of 18.47 BTU per hour. The module's continuous isolation voltage is rated at 250 Volts, while its off-state maximum voltage is 5 Volts DC with a current of 1.5 milliamps.
For on-state operation, the 1756-IV16 Digital Sourcing I/O Module exhibits a current range between 2 milliamps at 10 Volts DC and 10 milliamps at 30 Volts DC. Additionally, the module has a backplane input delay time that varies based on its state transitions. When transitioning from "off" to "on," the delay consists of a hardware delay time (nominal 280 microseconds, maximum 1 millisecond), plus a user-selectable filter time (0, 1, or 2 milliseconds). On the other hand, the delay time for a transition from "on" to "off" includes a hardware delay time (nominal 540 microseconds, maximum 2 milliseconds) plus a user-selectable filter time (1, 2, 9, or 18 milliseconds).
This combination of features makes the Allen-Bradley 1756-IV16 module a reliable solution for digital input applications in industrial automation systems.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
