The Allen-Bradley 1756-L55M13 is a Series A ControlLogix 5555 controller, known for its impressive memory capacity and versatile communication options. With 1.5 Mbytes of data and logic memory and 208 kbytes for I/O, it offers ample storage for complex control tasks. However, it lacks nonvolatile memory, meaning configurations would need to be backed up externally. The 1756-L55M13 weighs 12.5 oz (0.35 kg) and is an open-style controller without an enclosure type rating, giving it flexibility for various applications.

 

In terms of communication, the PLC Processor Module 1756-L55M13 supports DeviceNet, ControlNet, Ethernet/IP, Universal Remote I/O serial, Data Highway Plus, Modbus via ladder routine, SynchLink, and DH-485, making it adaptable to many industrial environments. Its backplane currents are 0.014A at 24V DC and 1.23A at 5.1V DC, and it has a thermal dissipation of 19.1 BTU/hr with a power dissipation of 5.6W.

 

The 1756-L55M13 Series A ControlLogix 5555 controller is built to withstand challenging conditions. It operates between 0 to 60°C, with a storage range of -40 to 85°C and supports 5% to 95% non-condensing relative humidity. It has a vibration tolerance of 2 g at 10 to 500 Hz and can handle 30 g shock during operation and 50 g shock when not in use. The 1756-L55M13 also features a continuous isolation voltage of 30V and has been tested to withstand 707V DC for up to 60 seconds.

 

For power backup, the controller uses the 1756-BA1 lithium battery, and while the battery can be replaced, it is only necessary under specific circumstances. It is compatible with 1756-CP3 and 1747-CP3 programming cables and can be integrated into a redundant controller system, provided both controllers are part of the same ControlNet network. This makes the 1756-L55M13 Powerful Processor Module a highly reliable and flexible controller for demanding industrial applications.

ControlLogix System Overview


The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art

I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in

training and engineering.

A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the

following:

• Multiple controllers in one chassis

• Multiple controllers joined across networks

• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links

• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive

environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.

The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.

ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers

can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and

many third-party process and device networks.

• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.

Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over

networks) but operate independently.

• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the

chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
