1756-L62S Functional Description
The 1756-L62S by Allen-Bradley is an advanced communication protocol module designed for robust safety applications. This GuardLogix Controller offers both high functionality and reliability, with a 4 MB memory for standard tasks and an additional 6 MB of safety memory. Specifically engineered for safety-critical environments, the 1756-L62S supports SIL3 and PLe safety standards, making it ideal for industries requiring high safety integrity.
The integrated GuardLogix system within the 1756-L62S Guardlogix 5562S Process combines both primary control and safety control in a unified solution, allowing for seamless operation across standard and safety-related tasks. Notably, this module offers a maximum I/O range of up to 128,000, with a dedicated 4,000-point analog I/O range. The front of the unit features smart key switches, making it easy to switch between operational modes, enhancing user convenience.
In terms of electrical specifications, the Allen-Bradley 1756-L62S Guardlogix 8 MB Standard Memory Controller operates at 5.1V DC drawing 1200 milliamps, while its 24V DC operation draws just 14 milliamps. With a power dissipation rate of 3.5 Watts and thermal dissipation of 11.9 BTU/hour, it is designed to efficiently manage heat. The device also features continuous isolation voltage capacity of 30 Volts, ensuring reliability in diverse operational environments.
What sets the Allen-Bradley 1756-L62S apart is its integration into the chassis, which provides the physical connection between the GuardLogix controller and other modules, enhancing modularity and system scalability. This advanced controller is a versatile and high-performance solution for modern industrial automation.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
