1756-L63XT Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-L63XT is a robust ControlLogix controller designed for extreme environmental conditions. With an impressive operating temperature range of -25 to 70°C and storage temperatures from -40 to 85°C, it outperforms many controllers in its class. When paired with the 1756-A7LXT chassis, the operating temperature range narrows slightly to -25 to 60°C. However, when combined with FLEX I/O-XT products, it still tolerates temperatures between -20 and 70°C, offering flexibility for a variety of industrial applications. The controller’s high temperature tolerance ensures reliability even in harsh environments, earning it the designation of an "extreme environment" controller.
In terms of memory, the 1756-L63XT ControlLogix XT Memory Controller offers 8 MB of user memory and 478 KB of I/O memory, providing ample storage for demanding applications. Additionally, users can expand storage with optional CompactFlash cards, available in 64 MB and 128 MB options. For connectivity, the controller features a built-in RS-232 serial port and is compatible with multiple ControlLogix chassis models, including the 1756-A4LXT, 1756-A5XT, 1756-A7LXT, and 1756-A7XT. This makes the 1756-L63XT ControlLogix Controller a versatile solution for a wide range of industrial control systems.
The 1756-L63XT Automation Controller also supports up to 128,000 digital I/O points and 4000 analog I/O points, alongside three controller tasks, 32 event triggers, and a maximum of 250 controller connections. Communication options are expansive, with support for ControlNet, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP, and other networks, making it an ideal choice for complex industrial systems. This versatility is complemented by its power efficiency, drawing just 1200 mA at 5.1V DC and dissipating 3.5 W, while remaining highly resistant to environmental challenges such as vibration and shock.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
