IC697MDL940 Functional Description
The IC697MDL940 is a relay output module designed for the GE Fanuc Series 90-70 Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). It offers 16 output channels, consisting of 8 Form C contact outputs and 8 Form A contact outputs, which are split into two groups of four. The module supports both AC and DC operation, with a voltage range of 120/240 VAC or 5/24/125 VDC. The maximum power consumption for AC loads is 480 VA, and for DC loads, it is 60 watts. Each output channel has a maximum response time of 10 milliseconds, and when connected to inductive loads, the switching frequency is 20 cycles per minute.
The IC697MDL940 relay output module has a maximum load current of 2.0 amps for AC (5 to 265 VAC), 2.0 amps for DC (5 to 30 VDC), and 0.2 amps for DC (31 to 125 VDC and 31 to 150 VDC, applicable only to Form A contact outputs). Its minimum load current is 10 milliamps. The relay design features fixed coils and moving armatures, and the output contacts are made from silver alloy with a maximum contact resistance of 0.2 ohms. The expected mechanical operation life of the contacts is 20 million cycles, and the electrical life is 1 million cycles under resistive-inductive load conditions. Additionally, each output channel is protected by a 3-amp fuse and a snubber circuit consisting of a 47-ohm resistor and a 0.015 µF capacitor.
The IC697MDL940 relay output module also offers an isolation voltage rating of 1500 volts, making it suitable for high-voltage applications. The module’s overall switching frequency is designed to handle up to 20 cycles per minute for inductive loads. It is ideal for use in automation systems where both AC and DC voltage control is required, providing reliable and long-lasting performance.
In summary, the IC697MDL940 relay output module relay output module offers robust protection, efficient switching capabilities, and high durability, making it a vital component for GE Fanuc PLC systems in demanding industrial environments.

Series 90-70 PLC
With our CPX family of CPUs, the Series 90-70 offers more for your automation dollar—more computing power, more memory for your applications, and more communications and redundancy capabilities. And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
