1756-L71 Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-L71 is a versatile and robust ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controller (PAC), designed to meet the demands of modern industrial automation. With a user memory capacity of 2 MB and 0.98 MB of I/O memory, it provides ample space for complex control processes. The controller features a 4-character alphanumeric display for easy real-time monitoring of controller diagnostics, run-time information, and module status, ensuring smooth operations. Additionally, the 1756-L71 CONTROLLOGIX 5580 CONTROLLER supports an open-style enclosure and includes a 2.0 full-speed USB port for seamless connectivity and configuration.
The 1756-L71 ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controller offers comprehensive communication options such as EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, ControlNet, Remote I/O, Data Highway Plus, SynchLink, and third-party networks, providing high flexibility in integrating with various devices and networks. It comes equipped with a 1 GB non-volatile memory, which can be expanded to 2 GB by installing the 1784-SD2 SD card, offering even more storage capacity. The controller includes three capacitor energy storage modules, with two being removable, ensuring that data is retained without the need for a battery.
The 1756-L71 Smaller Memory-sized Controller is designed for high-performance applications, supporting up to 128,000 discrete I/O points and 4,000 analog I/O points, making it suitable for medium to large-scale automation tasks in industries like manufacturing and process control. It operates within a temperature range of 0 to 60°C and can withstand non-operating shocks up to 50G. For installation, the 1756-L71 requires a compatible ControlLogix chassis like the 1756-A4 or 1756-A10.
Allen-Bradley 1756-L71 is part of the Logix platform, offering efficient, scalable solutions for advanced automation, simplifying configuration and improving overall system performance.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
