1756-LSP Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-LSP is a GuardLogix safety partner controller designed for use with primary controllers such as the 1756-L61S, 1756-L62S, and 1756-L63S. This module is intended to enhance safety functions, supporting SIL 3 (Safety Integrity Level) and Performance Level (e) applications. As a redundant co-processor, the 1756-LSP provides an isolated safety control channel to ensure system reliability. It is installed beside the primary controller in a ControlLogix chassis and occupies one slot. Together, the primary and safety partner controllers use two slots in total.
The 1756-LSP GuardLogix Processor Module does not have its own user memory for standard tasks. Its safety memory is dependent on the primary controller’s memory: 1MB for the 1756-L61S and 1756-L62S, and 3.75MB for the 1756-L63S. It draws 1200mA at 5.1V DC and 14mA at 24V DC, with a power dissipation of 3.5W and thermal dissipation of 11.9 BTU/hr. It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C and can withstand non-operating temperatures from -40°C to 85°C. The module has a shock rating of 30g while operating, and 50g in non-operating conditions.
The 1756-LSP Contrologix Module also features an RS-232 communication port, though it relies on the primary controller for key switching and communication functions. It includes a CompactFlash card for non-volatile memory storage and offers LED status indicators for real-time monitoring. To meet SIL 3 standards, the 1756-LSP is a GuardLogix safety partner controller must be installed next to the primary controller in the chassis. The module is compatible with various ControlLogix chassis and power supplies, making it a versatile choice for safety-critical applications.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
