1756-M03SE Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-M03SE is a specialized SERCOS interface module designed to seamlessly connect ControlLogix controllers to Allen-Bradley’s Kinetix servo drives, such as the Kinetix 2000, Kinetix 6000, Kinetix 7000, and Ultra3000 series. This module supports position, velocity, and torque control modes, making it ideal for motion control applications that require high-speed, real-time communication with precision.
One of the key advantages of the 1756-M03SE SERCOS interface module is its use of a fiber-optic link instead of traditional copper wiring, which drastically reduces wiring complexity—eliminating up to 18 digital wires per axis. This fiber-optic interface not only increases noise rejection, ensuring reliable operation, but also enhances the module’s ability to handle high-speed, real-time serial communication with connected drives.
The module can manage up to 3 axes, with compatibility for Kinetix 2000 Servo Drives and other Kinetix models. It can be installed in any available slot of a ControlLogix chassis (such as 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, or 1756-A17). The 1756-M03SE SERCOS interface module operates with a data rate of 4 Mbps or 8 Mbps, providing different cycle times based on the configuration. For example, at 4 Mbps, it supports up to 4 drives with a cycle time of 1 ms, while at 8 Mbps, it can handle up to 16 drives with cycle times as low as 0.5 ms.
This module’s power consumption is relatively low, with a current draw of 2.5 mA at 24V DC and 760 mA at 5.1V DC. It operates within a temperature range of 0°C to 60°C and a storage range of -40°C to 85°C, ensuring versatility in diverse industrial environments.
The 1756-M03SE Terminal Block Wiring is particularly suited for Kinetix servo systems, offering an optimized solution for motion control in both open-loop and closed-loop applications. Its compliance with international standards like IEC61491 further highlights its suitability for global motion control applications.
In summary, the Allen-Bradley 1756-M03SE SERCOS interface module stands out for its robust performance, easy integration with Kinetix drives, and reliable, noise-resistant fiber-optic communication—making it a top choice for high-precision motion control systems.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
