1756-M08SE Functional Description
The 1756-M08SE is an essential module for the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix system, designed to facilitate communication between ControlLogix racks and SERCOS (Serial Real-time Communications System) drives. This module allows seamless integration of up to eight Kinetix drives, supporting a wide range of Kinetix drive series such as the Kinetix 2000, Kinetix 6000, Kinetix 7000, and Ultra3000. It operates at data rates of 4 Mbps and 8 Mbps, enabling high-speed data exchange with cycle times that vary based on the number of drives connected.
At a 4 Mbps data rate, the 1756-M08SE essential module offers cycle times of 0.5 ms for up to two drives, 1 ms for four drives, and 2 ms for eight drives. When operating at 8 Mbps, it achieves cycle times of 0.5 ms for up to four drives, 1 ms for up to eight drives, and 2 ms for up to sixteen drives. This makes the 1756-M08SE particularly suitable for applications requiring real-time communication and precise control over position, velocity, and torque of multiple drives.
The module installs directly into a 1756 ControlLogix chassis, with compatible models including the 1756-A4, A7, A10, A13, and A17. For high-speed communication, the 1756-M08SE Interface Modules supports a variety of fiber optic cables such as the 2090-SCEPxx-0 and 2090-SCVPxx-0. It also provides excellent noise immunity, ensuring reliable performance in demanding industrial environments.
Designed to operate within a temperature range of 0 to 60°C, with a shock tolerance of 30 g during operation, the 1756-M08SE SERCOS Interface Servo Modules is built to withstand the harsh conditions of industrial automation. Whether used for controlling servo drives in position, velocity, or torque modes, the 1756-M08SE ensures efficient, high-performance drive management across various Kinetix systems.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
