1756-OA16 Functional Description
The 1756-OA16 is a 16-point digital output module from Allen-Bradley's ControlLogix series. It is designed to manage digital outputs with a voltage range of 74-265 Volts AC at 46-63 Hertz, making it suitable for industrial automation applications. The module has an output current rating of 0.5 A per point, 2 A per group, and 4 A per module at 60°C. The minimum load current per point is 10 mA, ensuring efficient operation in various conditions. Its backplane current consumption is 400 mA at 5.1 V DC and 2 mA at 24 V DC, with total power dissipation of 2.1 Watts. The module’s maximum power and thermal dissipation at 60°C are 6.5 Watts and 22.17 BTU/hour, respectively.
The 1756-OA16 Fuse Replacement supports two removable terminal blocks: the 1756-TBSH and 1756-TBNH, enabling easy wiring and configuration. It offers multiple operational states, including on, off, and last state (for recovering from power loss). The voltage drop in the on state is 1.5 V at 0.5 A, and the maximum leakage current in the off state is 3 mA per point. Output delay times are 9.3 ms for off to on at 60 Hz, and 11 ms for on to off at 50 Hz. The FuseBlown and FieldPwrLoss fault indicators help alert users to issues such as blown fuses or power loss.
The 1756-OA16 Leakage Current operates within a temperature range of 32°F to 140°F and can be stored in conditions from -40°F to 185°F. It supports 5-95% relative humidity, non-condensing. The module can be mounted in compatible ControlLogix chassis, such as the 1756-A4, 1756/A7, 1756-A10, and others, and requires a removable terminal block for I/O signal termination. This makes it versatile for local or remote I/O applications.
With a pilot duty rating of 0.5 A, the 1756 ControlLogix Controllers 1756-OA16 Terminal Block is capable of controlling inductive loads like solenoids, valves, and relays, though for high inrush currents, isolation protection is recommended. It is fully compatible with ControlLogix and GuardLogix processors, offering seamless integration with a range of communication modules. Front panel indicators show the operational status of each channel, providing clear visual feedback.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
