1756-OA16I Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA16I is a sixteen-channel discrete output module designed for use within the ControlLogix product family. It operates within a voltage range of 75-265 VAC with a frequency of 47-63 Hz, and supports nominal voltages of 120/240 VAC at 50/60 Hz. Each output channel has an output delay time of 9.3 ms at 60 Hz and 11 ms at 50 Hz, for both the On to Off and Off to On transitions.
This 1756-OA16I discrete output module requires a Removable Terminal Block (RTB) for wiring connections, with compatible blocks including the 1756-TBCH and 1756-TBS6H. The 1756-OA16I discrete output module has a current draw of 300 mA at 5.1 VDC and 2.5 mA at 24VDC, with a total backplane power requirement of 1.59 watts. It is a single-slot module, compatible with chassis models like 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, and 1756-A17. The module can be installed either in a local rack along with ControlLogix controllers or in a remote I/O rack via a 1756 Communication Adapter.
The AB 1756-OA16I Terminal Block Wiring allows configuration of fault modes and output states per point, such as "Hold last state," "On," or "Off" (default). Although it lacks internal fusing, it offers isolation with a voltage rating of 250V, using basic insulation between outputs and the backplane, as well as between output channels.
In terms of electrical characteristics, the 1756-OA16I Wiring Diagram has an operational temperature range of 0-60°C, a thermal dissipation of 18.76 BTU/hr, and a maximum current load of 2A per point at 30°C. It features a 20A inrush current for 43ms per output point. The module also provides excellent electrical isolation, with 250V isolation voltage and testing at 1350V AC for 2s. It operates with a maximum shock of 30G and is rated for 5-95% non-condensing humidity.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
