1756-OA8D Functional Description
The 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module from Allen-Bradley is an 8-point diagnostic output module designed for use within the 1756 ControlLogix chassis. It offers a reliable performance with backplane ratings of 175mA at 5.1V DC and 250mA at 24V DC, with a gross backplane power rating of 6.9W. Its output voltage range is from 74 to 132V AC at 47-63Hz. The 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module has an ON/OFF and OFF/ON delay time of 9.3ms at 50Hz and 11ms at 60Hz, ensuring accurate and timely operation.
Current draw for this module is 175mA at 5.1V and 250mA at 24V, with a power dissipation rate of 53W, and thermal dissipation rated at 18.0 BTU/hr. In its OFF state, the leakage current is just 3mA per point, and its maximum drop voltage is 3.0V at 1.0A. The 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module provides a current rating of 1A per output point at 30°C, which decreases linearly at higher temperatures. The 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module is capable of handling a maximum surge current of 8A for 43ms per point, recurring every 2 seconds at 30°C.
This 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module features an isolation voltage of 125V continuous, with basic insulation tested at 1200V AC for 2 seconds between output groups and the backplane. It is housed in a single-slot enclosure and weighs about 1kg (2.25lb). The 1756-OA8D ControlLogix Output Module operates optimally in a temperature range of 0–60°C (32–140°F) and humidity levels of 5-95% non-condensing. The keying on the removable terminal block (RTB) is customizable to user preferences.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
