1756-OA8E Functional Description
The Allen-Bradley 1756-OA8E is a ControlLogix discrete output module designed to deliver reliable and efficient control of output signals. With eight (8) output channels, this module provides a nominal output voltage of 120 VAC, with an operating range of 74-132 VAC and a frequency of 47-63 Hz. The 1756-OA8E ControlLogix discrete output module features two groups of four channels, each capable of handling 2 A at 60°C (140°F), with a maximum combined output current of 8 A at 30°C (86°F) and 4 A at 60°C (140°F), ensuring flexibility for various industrial applications.
This module is optimized for high performance with a fast output transition time of 9.3 ms at 60 Hz and 11 ms at 50 Hz, ensuring quick and reliable switching between On and Off states. It draws 200 mA from the 5.1 VDC backplane and 250 mA from the 24 VDC supply, requiring a total backplane power of 7.02 W. Additionally, the 1756-OA8E ControlLogix discrete output module has a power dissipation of 5.5 W and thermal dissipation of 18.76 BTU/hr, making it efficient in managing heat during operation.
Each output point on the 1756-OA8E ControlLogix discrete output module is protected by electronic fuses, providing robust individual channel protection. The module has a maximum leakage current of 3 mA per point in the off state and supports a surge of 20 A for 43 ms every 2 seconds. The 1756-OA8E ControlLogix discrete output module is compatible with the 1756-TBNH or 1756-TBSH Removable Terminal Block (RTB) for signal connections.
Certified for both CE and UL standards, the 1756-OA8E ControlLogix discrete output module operates optimally in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 60°C, with a storage range between -40°C to 85°C, making it suitable for a variety of industrial environments.

ControlLogix System Overview
The ControlLogix system provides discrete, drives, motion, process, and safety control together with communication and state-of-the-art
I/O in a small, cost-competitive package. The system is modular, so you can design, build, and modify it efficiently with significant savings in
training and engineering.
A simple ControlLogix system consists of a standalone controller and I/O modules in one chassis. For a more comprehensive system, use the
following:
• Multiple controllers in one chassis
• Multiple controllers joined across networks
• I/O in multiple platforms that are distributed in many locations and connected over multiple I/O links
• Select ControlLogix products are available with a conformal coating that adds a layer of protection when exposed to harsh, corrosive
environments. Products with a conformal coating have a ‘K’ suffix at the end of the catalog number.
The ControlLogix controller is part of the Logix 5000™ family of controllers.
• ControlLogix controllers can monitor and control I/O across the ControlLogix backplane, and over I/O links. ControlLogix controllers
can communicate over EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+™, Remote I/O, and RS-232-C (DF1/DH-485 protocol) networks and
many third-party process and device networks.
• The controller can be placed into any slot of a ControlLogix chassis and multiple controllers can be installed in the same chassis.
Multiple controllers in the same chassis communicate with each other over the backplane (just as controllers can communicate over
networks) but operate independently.
• To provide communication for a ControlLogix 5570 controller, install the appropriate communication interface module into the
chassis. ControlLogix 5580 controllers have a built-in EtherNet/IP port.
