IC693PBS105 Functional Description
The IC693PBS105 is an advanced Profibus Slave module designed for integration with the Series 90-30 PLC, a product line previously offered by GE Fanuc Automation and now under Emerson Automation. This module facilitates distributed I/O systems by serving as a remote adapter for I/O modules hosted in the Series 90-30 baseplates. Through Profibus communication, the IC693PBS105 can transmit up to 244 bytes of input and output data, achieving reliable connections over transmission speeds ranging from 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps. The IC693PBS105 advanced Profibus Slave module features two communication interfaces via 9-pin D-shell connectors: one for servicing and firmware updates, and another for Profibus communication, acting as a Profibus Slave.
For configuration, the IC693PBS105 advanced Profibus Slave module requires the Proficy Machine Edition Logic Developer software (Version 2.6 or higher) and must be paired with CPU Version 8.00 or later. It occupies a single slot on the baseplate and draws 450 mA of current at 5VDC. When it comes to network distance, the IC693PBS105 can communicate over Profibus Copper cable for up to 1200 meters or extend this range up to 6 km with fiber-optic media converters. It supports several Profibus cable types, including Belden 3079A, Siemens 6XV1, and Bosch Comment cables. Additionally, Profibus repeaters can be used to extend communication over longer distances.
The IC693PBS105 advanced Profibus Slave module plays a crucial role in connecting Series 90-30 PLCs into Profibus DP networks, acting as a secondary or slave device that communicates with the master PLC. Its compact design ensures easy installation in available baseplate slots (except the first slot reserved for the power supply). For optimal performance, the module should be housed in a protective enclosure, safeguarding it from environmental factors like humidity or extreme temperatures. However, it’s important to note that the IC693PBS105 advanced Profibus Slave module does not support Sync and Freeze operations, as it functions primarily for data exchange based on the master PLC’s commands.
