IC697BEM733 Functional Description
The IC697BEM733 is a Remote I/O Scanner module from the Series 90-7 PLC family, previously developed by GE Fanuc and now under Emerson Automation. This Remote I/O scanner module plays a crucial role in implementing distributed I/O systems, allowing for remote I/O stations to be placed up to 7,500 feet (2,275 meters) away from the host controller. It is designed to handle both discrete and analog I/O, supporting up to 1,024 discrete inputs, 1,024 discrete outputs, 64 analog input words, and 64 analog output words.
The IC697BEM733 Remote I/O Scanner module is compatible with a wide range of systems, primarily the IC697 PLC, but it can also work with IC66* modules, third-party PLCs, and computers equipped with Remote I/O communication cards. It features one 15-pin RS-422/485 compatible serial port and a 9-pin IC66* Hand-held Monitor port. Additionally, it supports redundancy through dedicated IC66* Bus terminals.
For remote I/O systems, the IC697BEM733 Remote I/O Scanner module connects to IC697 PLC modules and is capable of managing a mix of discrete and analog I/O, as well as PCM and ADS modules. The maximum connection distance from the host controller is 7,500 feet, and the system supports a configuration of up to 8 PLC racks in a typical remote drop setup. These racks can be linked via bus transmitters and bus receivers.
The IC697BEM733 Remote I/O Scanner module features three LED indicators to monitor operation status, along with a 9-pin connector for connection to a handheld monitor and a serial port for network communication. Whether used in industrial automation or computer communications, this module offers reliable and flexible integration for distributed control systems.

Series 90-70 PLC
With our CPX family of CPUs, the Series 90-70 offers more for your automation dollar—more computing power, more memory for your applications, and more communications and redundancy capabilities. And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
