IC697CGR935 Functional Description
The IC697CGR935 is a Hot-standby CPU from the Emerson Automation Series 90-70 (formerly GE Fanuc). This high-performance controller is designed for critical applications where maximum uptime and reliability are essential. It operates in pairs, with two IC697CGR935 Hot-standby controllers configured for redundancy. One unit acts as the primary, while the other serves as the secondary. Both controllers are powered simultaneously, continuously synchronizing user logic. If the primary controller fails, the secondary automatically takes over without needing to power up, ensuring seamless operation—a hallmark of the IC697CGR935's Hot-standby functionality.
The IC697CGR935 Hot-standby controllers is equipped with a 1 MB fast memory, supporting up to 12K discrete inputs and outputs, plus up to 8K analog I/O devices. This makes it suitable for handling complex industrial automation tasks. The processor features a 96 MHz 80486DX4 microprocessor, with a Boolean execution speed of 0.4 microseconds. Additionally, it includes one RS232 and two RS485 serial interfaces, supporting SNP slave protocols.
This model also offers excellent memory retention thanks to its battery-backed RAM, which can maintain memory for up to 6 months without power. The IC697CGR935 is rated for a current draw of 3.1 A and operates in temperatures ranging from 0 to 60°C (with forced air cooling). For environments exceeding 50°C, forced cooling is required.
Additionally, the IC697CGR935 Hot-standby controllers features intuitive LED indicators and a 3-position switch for easy operation, allowing users to monitor processor functions and I/O activity. With its reliable design and flexible connectivity options, the IC697CGR935 Hot-standby controllers is an ideal choice for mission-critical industrial systems where redundancy and uptime are paramount.

Series 90-70 PLC
With our CPX family of CPUs, the Series 90-70 offers more for your automation dollar—more computing power, more memory for your applications, and more communications and redundancy capabilities. And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
