IC697HSC700 Functional Description
The IC697HSC700 is a High-Speed Counter (HSC) module that was originally manufactured by GE Fanuc Automation and is now part of Emerson Automation. This versatile module is designed to interface with high-speed switching signals, with frequency capabilities of 200 kHz in Up/Down Quad mode (Types A, D, and E) and up to 800 kHz in Quad B mode (Type E). The IC697HSC700 is installed into a single I/O slot on the CPU baseplate, expansion, or remote baseplate.
Equipped with 12 single-ended or differential inputs, the IC697HSC700 High-Speed Counter (HSC) module operates with both 5VDC and 10-30 VDC voltage ranges. It also features four positive logic outputs, each delivering 20 mA at 10-30 VDC. This module is particularly suitable for applications in turbine flowmeter control, meter proving, velocity measurement, material handling, and motion and position control. For operation, the IC697HSC700 requires a Series 90-70 IC697CPU with firmware version 5.0 or later and compatible programming software, such as Logicmaster 90-70 (version 5.0x or later) or modern Windows-based tools like VersaPro and Proficy Machine Edition.
The IC697HSC700 High-Speed Counter (HSC) module also includes LED status indicators for module and output circuit diagnostics. With an input/output isolation rating of 1500 V for 1 second and 30 VAC/VDC steady state, this module is robust for industrial environments. It draws 1 Ampere of backplane current plus an additional 10 mA for every active output. The outputs are powered by a user-supplied 5 VDC or 10-30 VDC supply.
In addition to its high-speed counting capabilities, the IC697HSC700 High-Speed Counter (HSC) module supports configuration and programming through both Windows and MS-DOS operating systems, connecting via SNP or Ethernet TCP/IP ports. This makes it ideal for high-speed pulse processing, such as those encountered in industrial applications like meter proving, motion control, and process automation.

Series 90-70 PLC
With our CPX family of CPUs, the Series 90-70 offers more for your automation dollar—more computing power, more memory for your applications, and more communications and redundancy capabilities. And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
