IC697MDL240 Functional Description
The GE Fanuc IC697MDL240 Discrete Input Module is a key component of the GE Series 90-70 PLC product line. It features 16 isolated input points that support a voltage rating of 120 Volts AC. Each point is equipped with a 20-millisecond input filter delay to ensure smooth operation. The isolation design of the IC697MDL240 Discrete Input Module enables compatibility with different AC supply phases, enhancing its flexibility. The module also supports reactive inputs, with current-voltage characteristics that are ideal for a range of 2-wire or 3-wire proximity switches. In addition, the IC697MDL240 Discrete Input Module has integrated LEDs that provide clear on/off status for each input point, making it easy for users to monitor system activity.
Configuration of the IC697MDL240 Discrete Input Module is straightforward, thanks to its compatibility with Windows NT or Windows 95-based programming software. Users can set up the module through either an SNP port or an Ethernet TCP/IP port. The device draws 0.25 Amps from the 5V bus located on the backplane and includes a special mechanical key. This key ensures that the correct module is installed during both initial setup and replacements. By locking into the backplane’s center rail, it allows for easy and secure module swaps without needing additional jumpers or switches.
The IC697MDL240 Discrete Input Module is designed for durability, with capacitive input circuitry that supports efficient heat dissipation. It offers high reliability and longevity, ensuring long-term performance in industrial settings. During operation, the module typically draws 10 milliamps of current in the on-state, while the off-state can sink up to 4 milliamps of leakage current, maintaining low energy consumption.

Series 90-70 PLC
With our CPX family of CPUs, the Series 90-70 offers more for your automation dollar—more computing power, more memory for your applications, and more communications and redundancy capabilities. And it provides increased flexibility for a variety of applications due to a wide range of isolated and high-density VME analog I/O modules.
Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
