IC695CMM004 Functional Description
The IC695CMM004 is a versatile 4-port serial communication module from the PACsystem RX3i family, originally developed by GE and now manufactured by Emerson Automation. It provides four isolated, individually-operating serial ports, each with an RJ45 connector. These ports support a variety of communication protocols, including MODBUS Master/Slave, CCM Slave, DNP3 Master/Slave, and Serial I/O. The module allows for flexible baud rate selections, ranging from 1200 to 115.2K, and supports both RS232 and RS422/RS485 configurations for point-to-point or multi-drop communication setups.
The IC695CMM004 versatile 4-port serial communication module is capable of hosting up to six communication modules on a single RX3i CPU, enabling up to 24 serial ports to operate simultaneously. This makes it an ideal solution for connecting with power metering devices, variable frequency drives (VFDs), protocol converters, and other industrial equipment. It features robust isolation ratings, with 500VDC isolation between ports, 250VAC isolation between the module’s port, backplane, and frame ground, and higher voltage ratings for transient protection.
The IC695CMM004 versatile 4-port serial communication module also includes diagnostic LEDs for monitoring module status and errors. The “Module OK” LED can blink to indicate various issues such as watchdog expiry, RAM errors, or CPU configuration problems. Additionally, the module can be upgraded via firmware updates, and its installation must adhere to safety guidelines, especially in hazardous locations.
This module operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 60°C and consumes a maximum of 0.7A at 3.3VDC and 0.15A at 5VDC. The IC695CMM004 versatile 4-port serial communication module complies with CE and UL/CUL 508 standards, ensuring reliability and safety in industrial applications.

Open Architecture
Based on the VME-bus standard, the Series 90-70 can be used with thousands of boards produced by hundreds of different manufacturers to build a solution that meets your exact needs. These include links to drives and drive systems, servo motor controllers, embedded solutions for vision systems and bus-to-bus interface modules, as well as a variety of modules available from GE (see accompanying table).
Various Degrees of Redundancy
Combining the Series 90-70 with the advanced functionality of Genius* I/O, GE Genius Modular Redundancy (GMR) systems and Hot Standby systems can provide as much or as little redundancy as you need for your critical applications.
• The versatility and strength of the GMR system make it an ideal choice for rigorous emergency shutdown and human life protection systems. It has a class 6 TÜV rating.
• Based on three isolated PLCs and extensive diagnostics, the GMR triple modular redundancy system uses two-out-of-three voting to provide high reliability and errorfree operation.
• CPU Genius Redundancy (CGR) systems achieve enhanced hot standby CPU redundancy by connecting two power supplies and two CGR CPUs to one or more Genius I/O networks.
